Under limited direction from the Director of Lived Experience, this role is responsible for operationalising, managing and leading peer services in MHJHADS. The co-designed model will be initially piloted in adult mental health services, with potential to be modified and expanded over time into other service or specialty areas such as child and adolescent mental health, alcohol and drug services, forensic mental health, eating disorders, perinatal mental health and suicide prevention.

This role plays a key part in the integration, development and sustainability of the peer workforce in MHJHADS. As such, it requires an in-depth understanding and capability to manage, support and lead the Consumer and Carer Peer Workforce. It also requires the willingness and capability to establish interdisciplinary activity to support collaborative work with the clinical workforce (in particular psychiatry/medical, nursing and allied health) enabling holistic service delivery that meets the expressed needs of consumers, families and carers, and the expectations of the community.

As a Lived Experience service leader, opportunities will arise to provide strategic advice, contribute to or lead initiatives in the areas of safety and quality improvement, policy, workforce capability development, and service planning, development, evaluation and research – whereby the lived experience perspective is crucial to promoting recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practices across the organisation.

Key Selection Criteria

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé, experience and qualifications.

  1. Well-developed understanding of the collective experiences of consumers and/or carers through connections and collaboration over-time, and the ability to apply this knowledge to lead mental health peer services and influence broader mental health services.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse health (or related) service delivery team.
  3. High level interpersonal and communication skills that models collaboration across disciplines and at all levels.
  4. Demonstrated capability to lead the development of a positive team culture that fosters trust, mutuality, empowerment and respectful boundary setting to maintain individual and collective well-being and maintain the integrity of the service.
  5. Demonstrated experience in service or system improvement initiatives that enhance outcomes and experiences for consumer and/or carers.
  6. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, regulatory and policy frameworks, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
